The Princess and the Bowling Ball
Once
upon a time there was a princes. And this prince’s dad and mom (the king and
queen) some how got it into their royal heads that no princess would be good
enough for their boy unless she could feel a pea though one hundred mattresses.
So it should come
as no surprise that the prince had a very hard time finding a princess. Every
time he met a nice girl, his mom and dad would pile one hundred mattresses on
top of a pea. And then invite her to sleep over.
When the princess
came down for breakfast, the queen would ask, “How did you sleep?” The princess would
politely say, “Fine, thank you”.
And the king would
saw her the door.
Now, this is when
for three years. And of course nobody ever felt the pea under one hundred
mattresses. Then one day the prince met the girl of his dreams. He decided he’d
better do something about it.
That night, before the
princess went to bed, the prince slipped his bowling ball under one hundred
mattresses.
When the princess
came down for breakfast the next morning, the queen asked, “How did you sleep,
dear?”
“This might sound
odd,” said the princes. ”But I think you need another mattress. I felt like I
was sleeping on a lump as big as bowling ball.”
The King and Queen
were satisfied, and the prince and princess were married. And everyone lived
happily, though maybe not completely honestly, ever after.

Once upon a time,
King Rock brought his bast knights and soldiers to besiege Vernon castle.
They surrounded the
castle for days, trapping the Lord Vernon inside.
However, they
refused to surrender. They fought hard to defend their castle.
One day, Sir Paul,
a brave and courageous knight, put on a disguise and went out of Vernon castle.
He walked stealthily to enter the king’s camp. However, he was discovered by
the king’s soldiers. They chased after him shouting, “A spy! A spy!”
Sir Thompson, one
of the king’s knights, caught him. They fought badly. Sir Paul tried to run
away quickly to the Vernon castle. However, Sir Thompson could catch up with
him again.
Just as he was
about stab Sir Paul with his sword, he heard someone screaming, “Please don’t
kill him.”
Looking up, Sir
Paul saw a beautiful lady with fair hair. It was his sister, Lady Etvia.
“Both of you are
brave knights, “She said. “This war has been fought by brave and chivalrous
knights and soldiers. But, we women and children suffer because there is no
food to eat.”
Sir Paul and Sir
Thompson looked at one another dumbfounded. They were surprised by what the
lady had said. No one had ever been brave enough to speak to the knights like
this. They promised Lady Etvia to tell their king and King Rock made an
agreement. Each of them would choose a knight won, the king would end the
slegr. But if the lord’s knight lost, the king would take over Lord Vernon’s castle
and his people must surrender. Sir Paul was chosen to flight for Lord Vernon
and Sir Thompson was chosen for the king.
Both knights were
strong and powerful. They fought like two fierce lions in the sun. Suddenly,
Sir Paul struck a blow so strong that Sir Thompson fell to the ground. Vernon’s
people cheered while the king’s army groaned. Sir Thompson bowed his head
humbly and prepared himself for death.

The Legend of Minos, King of Crete
Once upon a time there lived a very famous king, named the
King of Crete. He had a monster, which was half bull and half man.
He ordered Daedalus, a
craftsman from Athens, to build a labyrinth in order to house the monster. When
Daedalus finished his work, he wanted to leave Crete. But the king would not
let him go.
Daedalus escape through
the air by using wings fixed to his body with wax. He also made wings for his
son, Icarus and made him fly behind himself.
But the son was so glad
and excited that he soon went too high. As he flew nearer to the sun, it got
warmer and warmer until at last the wax melted and his body fell down into the
sea near Troy.
The sea is now called
the Icarian Sea.

Once upon a time,
there lived in Japan a peasant and his wife. They were sad couple because they
had no children. They kept praying to their god pleading to give them a child.
While cutting wood
by a stream one day, the man saw a large peach floating on the water. Her ran
to pick it up. His wife was excited because she had never seen such a large
peach before. They were about to cut the peach when they heard a voice from
inside.
The couple were too
surprised to do anything. The peach then cracked open, and there was a
beautiful baby boy inside. The couple were very happy, of course. They named
the baby Momotaro, which meant ‘Peach boy’.
Momotaro grew up to
be a clever, courageous young man. His ‘parents’ loved him very much
One day, Momotaro
told his parents that he was going to fight the pirates who always attacked
their village. These pirates lived on an island a few kilometers away.
Momotaro’s mother packed his food, and his father gave him a sword. Having
blessed Momotaro, they sent him off on his journey.
Sailing on his
boat, Momotaro met an eagle going in the same direction. They became good
friends, soon, both of them arrived on the island of the Pirates.
Momotaro drew out
the sacred sword his father had given him and began to fight the pirates. The
eagle flew over the thieves’ heads, pecking at their eyes. Finally, the pirates
were defeated.
Momotaro brought
home all goods that pirates had stolen. His parents were proud of him, and they
were overjoyed at his victory and safe return.

One April a time, a
rabbit wanted to cross a river but he couldn’t swim. He had an idea. He saw a
boss of crocodile swimming in the river. The rabbit asked the boss of
crocodile, “How many crocodiles are there in the river? “ The boss of crocodile
answered, “We are twenty here.” “Where are they?” the rabbit asked for the
second time. “What is it for?” the boss of crocodile asked.
“All of you are good, nice, gentle
and kind, so I want to make a line in order. Later I will know how kind you
are, “said the rabbit. Then, the boss of crocodile called all his friends and
asked them to make a line in order from one. Side to the other side of the
river. Just them, the rabbit started to count while jumping from one crocodile
to another; one …. two …. there …. four … until twenty, and finally, he thanked
all crocodiles because he had crossed the river.

A farmer came across a bird with a broken wing.
He picked it up, took it home and looked after it lovingly, even though his
wife complained bitterly about his wasting too much time on the creature.
After some time, the wing mended and, because
the bird did not want the farmer to have kept on arguing with his wife all the
time, it decided to go back to its nest.
When the farmer discovered that the
bird was gone, he was so upset that he went out to look for it. Eventually, he
found it again, and was greeted happily by the whole family of the bird.
As a sign of their thanks for his care and attention, the birds gave him a
little box, and told him not to open it until he got home.
To his surprise, the farmer found the box full
of precious stones. When his wife saw them, she decided that she too deserved a
reward, and she went to see the birds. The birds gave her a little casket; but
this one was full of devils. The devils jumped on her as soon as she opened the
casket and chased her away.
Left alone, the farmer went to live near his friend, the bird. There he built a
hut of perfumed wood; and the birds decorated it with flowers of every kind.
